Sold out!

On Thursday the 21st of July the first public showing of 'The Finest Place' took place in the Wauchope Hall in Town Yetholm. We had a completely full house for this showing and were delighted that some of the interviewees from the film came back to see it again. Once again the feedback very positive and we are looking forward to the next public screening.
The Finest Place Premiere!

On the 8th of July we had the first showing of our latest film, 'The Finest Place'. Most of the people who took part in the film, either as interviewees or providing photographs, attended and we were delighted with their feedback on the film. The response was overwhelmingly positive. The evening was a resounding sucess with a buffet and wine afterwards. We are so pleased that everyone enjoyed it and delighted that many people purchased copies to watch again! If you are unable to get to any of the forthcoming screenings then you can purchase a copy of Yetholm, The Finest Place here.
The Finest feeling

After several long months (nearly eight in fact!) our feature length documentary 'The Finest Place' is complete! The film is about Town and Kirk Yetholm and the surrounding valleys. As with 'Valley in the North' we were honoured and delighted to meet so many wonderful people thorughout the making of the film, and hope they enjoyed taking part as much as we have enjoyed filming them!
Happy Birthday Bob

We were delighted to be invited to Bob's 100th birthday party in May. We met Bob in January and created him an 'Engage Heritage' DVD. He was a brilliant interviewee and it was incredible to hear about his memories, including starting school in 1916. We were so pleased that he enjoyed partaking in filming as much as we enjoyed meeting him. Not only is Bob an absolute gentleman, but he is also our oldest interviewee and therefore has the earliest memories we have ever recorded!
You can see a section of Bob's family history on our portfolio page.
I hope Bob's 100th year is a fantastic one for him and his loved ones.
A Year in the Making

James Hugonin has made just one painting each year for the past 22 years. He works from his studio in the Cheviot Hills, in the Border country between England and Scotland.
'Hugonin works constantly on these intense evocations of colour and light, comprised of thousands of tiny coloured marks fluctuating across the painting’s surface. Not surprisingly, exhibitions of his work are rare, so for the Artist’s 60th birthday Ingleby Gallery presented a survey of his six most recent paintings, alongside two early works that first began this remarkable series over twenty years ago.' (from Ingleby Gallery show information)
The show will run from 30th September- 20th of October and I hope as many of you as possible will be able to make it up to Edinburgh.
A Year in the Making- Quite literally!

We are delighted to announce the completion of 'Untitled XVIII' A Year in the Making.
Shadowcat Films followed James Hugonin throughout the course of a year as he created the final painting in his series of 18 paintings. He has been working on this series from his studio in Northumberland for 22 years and it was an honour to be allowed to view his work throughout the year as he created the final piece. The film offers an insight into his working methods and the theory behind his paintings.
'A Year in the Making' can be purchased in the Films section of our site.
Lady Louisa

Louisa and the Lady Waterford Hall is now available to purchase here or at the Lady Waterford Hall in Ford. We were lucky to have some fantastic weather in March which enabled us to film artist Olivia Gill (Louisa) on location.
The film takes us on a tour of Ford and the Lady Waterford Hall which was once where the school was located. The project was completed from start to finish in under a month and we were pleased to be able to interview four people about their memories of attending the school at the Lady Waterford Hall.
Valley on Look North

We were delighted that upon completion of 'Valley in the North' Look North chose to come and film in the College Valley for a feature about the documentary. Two of our participants, Jim Bertram of Lowick, and Evelyn Pendleton of Kirknewton reprised their roles as interviewees and also went up to Dunsdale to be filmed in the landscape. The news feature was a fantastic way of topping off the year of hard work, and a great way of enabling the film to reach a new audience.
James Hugonin

We met James Hugonin in summer 2009 and have begun filming for a documentary about the last painting in his series of 18. We will be visiting him every month and filming the progress of this remarkable piece of work. The film will then be shown at the Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh, alongside several other paintings from the series. The show will run for seven weeks. More details will follow.
Memories on film

'When you hit your eighties, you might be forgiven for thinking if you haven't done it by now, you never will. But 'it's never too late' could well be the subtitle of a new documentary film which recalls a long gone way of life in the remote foothills and around Kirknewton near the Cheviots....' Extract from Journal Culture magazine.
We were so pleased that the Culture magazine featured our film in it's June 2009 issue. Participants Maragret Taylor, John Dagg, Jim Bertram and Evelyn Pendleton were all interviewed. If you would like a photocopy of the article please contact us!
